The Pasadena Polyethylene Disaster

21 February 2023 19:30-21:00, United Kingdom

Introduction
In 1989 in Pasadena, Texas, a devastating explosion took place in the Phillips 66 Houston Chemical Complex.  The explosion and resulting fire killed 23 and caused over $3bn of damage.  It also had a major impact on the development and modernisation of Process Safety Management (PSM) in the US and around the world.

Scott Jackson is the Technology Manager at Ineos Manufacturing in Grangemouth and current chair of the mid Scotland Local Section.  In this talk, originally given as part of his company “Lunch & Learn” initiative, Scott will describe the events leading up to this incident and its aftermath and give an insight into the root causes which changed the face of modern Process Safety Management.
