National Conference for Science Technicians 2023

6 September 2023 10:00-16:30, Manchester, United Kingdom

Introduction
The National Conference for Science Technicians (NCST) celebrates technical staff and their vital contribution to the sciences, as well as the Technician Commitment. Bringing together attendees from across the chemical sciences, the conference offers the opportunity to hear about how you can broaden your career and encourage the next generation of technicians. You’ll also be able to network with colleagues and hear from inspirational speakers for talks centred around our theme of career pathways, including:
  • having great career conversations
  • persuasive proposals for technician support
  • celebrating technicians
We’re featuring inspiring speakers and professional development specialists from across the technical community, including:
  • Emily Thorpe, Technical Training Manager, MI Talent
  • Sandy Sparks, Technical Training Manager, MI Talent
  • Simon Hettrick, Chair, The Hidden REF
In the afternoon, in-person delegates have the option to choose their preferred parallel session from the following:
  • Recognition for technicians through research authorship
  • Returning to work following a career break
  • How job progression structure, such as Å·ÃÀAV accredited schemes, can support technical staff
Online attendees will be presented with the following independent workshop:
  • Success using the Å·ÃÀAV and other pathways as a technician
The conference is free to attend and open to chemical science technicians in any sector, and you don’t have to be a member of the Å·ÃÀAV to attend. However, places are limited, so be sure to register soon to guarantee your place.

Å·ÃÀAV members can apply for the Technician Travel and Training Grant to cover the travel costs of attending events that facilitate professional development.
