Stanley Langer

Å·ÃÀAV Chilterns & Middlesex Local Section and Å·ÃÀAV Historical Group

For outstanding service to the Å·ÃÀAV Chilterns & Middlesex Local Section, South East Regional Steering Group and Historical Group.

Stanley has held many different positions at the Å·ÃÀAV, culminating with responsibility for international affairs and awards. He has visited many countries, especially in Africa and Asia. His achievements include helping to establish several chemical societies in Africa, and the Federation of African Societies of Chemistry. He was instrumental in persuading UNESCO to designate 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry. And he has served as secretary of the UK delegation to IUPAC's General Assembly on many occasions. Since retiring, Stanley has served on the Å·ÃÀAV's Chilterns and Middlesex Committee, primarily responsible for the Humphry Davy lectures. He is also treasurer of the Å·ÃÀAV Historical Group. In his spare time, Stanley is a qualified cricket umpire in the Middlesex League, sing tenor in the North Camden Chorus, and is a keen table tennis player. He also helps his wife, Jennifer, as treasurer of her charity, Exiled Writers Ink.

Biography

Stanley Langer was born and grew up in Northampton. He began his career with the Å·ÃÀAV (Å·ÃÀAV) after studying at King's College London and undertaking research at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine. Stanley has held many different positions at the Å·ÃÀAV. He currently serves on the Å·ÃÀAV's Chilterns and Middlesex Committee and is primarily responsible for the Humphry Davy lectures. He is also treasurer of the Å·ÃÀAV Historical Group.
