Making wire-bound lab notebooks with green paper
A PhD student with Irlen syndrome encounters challenges when reading and writing in black on white paper.
This makes notetaking difficult. Note taking is an important part of lab work or any experimental process as it provides an accurate record of what has been done.
The student made their own wire-bound laboratory notebook with green paper, enabling them to take notes effectively. However, their institution was initially uncomfortable with the lab notebook not being hard-bound.
Laboratory notebooks with standard formatting but with non-white paper have the potential to benefit others who work in laboratories and for whom reading black text on white paper is challenging. This suggests that there may be a wider potential market for hard-bound laboratory notebooks with coloured paper.
It benefitted me at the time but I believe there are other chemists out there who would benefit from non-white lab books. My institution initially were uncomfortable about my notebook not being hard-bound… As a result, I was able to keep on top of my lab notes, without exacerbating my symptoms.
