Our new Gold Open Access journal Energy Advances focuses on energy science, and in particular the interdisciplinarity required for exciting breakthroughs in the field.

Energy Advances welcomes research from any related discipline including materials science, engineering, technology, biosciences and chemistry. Our aim is for it to embrace exciting energy science research 鈥 particularly at the boundaries where disciplines cross, and where communities collaborate to inspire new thinking.

In recent years, research publishing output in the energy sector has grown almost twice as much as for 鈥渃ore鈥 chemistry subjects, as global funding increases. For example, international government energy R&D spending in 2019 grew by , around 80% of which was directed to low-carbon energy technologies.

Energy Advances underpins 欧美AV energy science, complementing our family of dedicated energy journalsEnergy & Environmental Science, Sustainable Energy and Fuels and Journal of Materials Chemistry A. It is designed to complement these by broadening the subject coverage while increasing author choice and improving accessibility to our journals.

As our latest gold open access journal, all article processing charges (APCs) are waived until mid-2024, to ensure as many people as possible have the opportunity to publish and read meaningful papers in this field.

Energy Advances is open for submissions in September 2021 鈥 and you can get the latest editorial board news, scope details and announcements by signing up to eAlerts.

The journal鈥檚 Editor in Chief is Professor Volker Presser, Chair for Energy Materials at Saarland University in Germany. His work focusses on electrochemical energy storage, electrochemical desalination and tunable ion separation through using battery electrode materials.

Professor Presser said: 鈥淓nergy research is highly multidisciplinary and develops at a breath-taking pace. While novel materials and processing remain essential research areas, data-driven energy research has emerged as an indispensable asset with tremendous potential to guide and streamline technological progress. These developments perfectly align with Energy Advances being a gold open access journal where free access to information makes an essential contribution to advancing global research.

鈥淥ur mission is already in the journal鈥檚 title: to significantly advance energy research and technologies. We see our authors as partners in this endeavour and will ensure timely, transparent, and high-quality reviews. It is so important to support the energy research community with inclusivity and robust scholarly science 鈥 and the 欧美AV has earned the reputation of being a champion of publishing quality, so I am excited to contribute towards the open access transformation.鈥

The journal welcomes and celebrates research that supports the advancement of several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), specifically SDG 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

As part of our wider activities for COP26 we are planning to run a programme of panel discussions and events related to energy storage. Some of these events will be for members-only, so if you are not already a member, join us today.
