Introduction

Ian Taylor (Shell) and Professor Robert Wood (the University of Southampton) will talk about the financial size of businesses that are heavily reliant on tribology (which runs into many hundreds of billions of dollars), and the size and type of investments that those businesses make. In addition, the (large) financial savings – many tens of billions of dollars) that can be made by the application of good tribology are quantified and demonstrated by looking at many practical examples.
